Version 2.7 is the biggest update to JK RapidReader since it first appeared in the Chrome Web Store as version 1.0. Here is what changed, in plain terms.
Chat with a whole book
Give a chat a book, a report or a stack of articles as its background, and ask. When a document is too long to send whole, RapidReader picks the passages most relevant to your question and tells you which ones it used. You see the cost of each message before you send it.
A library you own
Your articles, notes, quizzes and chats are saved as plain files in a folder you choose. Back it up, sync it, or open it in Obsidian; RapidReader picks up your edits.
RSS feeds
Follow sites, search everything they publish, and save the full text of what you want to keep. Feed Scout suggests feeds for a topic you describe.
Fewer permissions at install
RapidReader now asks for permission to fetch web pages only the first time you need it, and uses it only for what you ask.
Free AI on your own computer
Besides Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Grok with your own key, RapidReader works with Ollama, so you can use AI without sending anything anywhere.
The What’s new page lists every change. If you have the store version, you already have it. Otherwise, download it here.
