Version 2.7.3 · October 2026
Get JK RapidReader.
Free, for Chrome and the browsers built on it: Edge, Brave and Arc. Pick one way to install.
Recommended
Chrome Web Store
One click to install, and it updates itself.
- Open the store page and click Add to Chrome.
- Click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar, then the pin next to JK RapidReader.
- Click the icon. The reader opens on a short setup.
A new version can take a few days to appear in the store while Google reviews it. The zip is always the newest.
Manual install
Download the zip
JK RapidReader 2.7.3, about 1 MB. It does not update itself: come back here for new versions.
- Download the zip and unzip it. You get a folder called
jk_rapidreader_v2.7.3. - Open
chrome://extensions(Edge:edge://extensions, Brave:brave://extensions). - Turn on Developer mode, top right.
- Click Load unpacked and choose the unzipped folder.
- Keep the folder where it is: the browser runs the extension from it.
Updating: unzip the new version, then click Load unpacked again, or replace the old folder and click the reload arrow on the extension. Your library is in your own folder, so nothing is lost.
After installing
Three minutes of setup.
- Choose a folder for your library, for example Documents/RapidReader. Everything is saved there as ordinary files.
- Pick a starting speed. 300 words a minute is a good start.
- Read something. Highlight text on any page, right-click, and choose Read it Fast.
The first time RapidReader fetches a web page for you, your browser asks to allow it. It asks then, not at install.
Optional
AI, if you want it.
Reading, listening, the library and feeds all work without AI. For summaries, quizzes and chat, add a key from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google or xAI, and pay them only for what you use. Or install Ollama and run AI on your own computer, free.
Needs: a desktop computer (Mac, Windows, Linux or ChromeOS) with Chrome, Edge, Brave or Arc. Not available for phones.
