Install JK RapidReader

From the Chrome Web Store, or from the zip in Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc.

From the Chrome Web Store (recommended)

  1. Open JK RapidReader in the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Chrome.
  2. Click the puzzle-piece icon in the toolbar, then the pin next to JK RapidReader, so its icon is always one click away.
  3. Click the icon. The reader opens on a short first-time setup (see Choose your library folder).

Edge, Brave and Arc install from the Chrome Web Store too. Edge may ask you to Allow extensions from other stores first.

From the zip

Use this if you can’t use the store, or want a new version before the store has reviewed it.

  1. Download the zip from the Download page and unzip it. You get a folder called jk_rapidreader_v2.7.3.
  2. Open chrome://extensions. In Edge it’s edge://extensions, in Brave brave://extensions; Arc uses chrome://extensions.
  3. Turn on Developer mode.
  4. Click Load unpacked and choose the unzipped folder.

Leave the folder where it is: the browser runs the extension from it. A zip install doesn’t update itself. To update, unzip the new version and load it the same way, then remove the old one. Your library lives in your own folder, so nothing is lost.

Updating from version 1.0

The store updates you automatically. Your settings are kept. The first time you use a feature that fetches web pages, your browser asks to allow it; see Why RapidReader asks to read websites.
